Been tumbling alot of BIFs lately. Messing around. Trying different methods. Different grits and different grit cycles. Anyway, they're a b*tch to polish because there is so much quartz riddled through it. So many weird fault lines. The iron varies from rock solid to dust. The weird thing is. I'm starting to like the fault lines and dugouts and quartz edges when I pull the out of polish. Draws a line of how this rock came to be. Blah blah blah.......My friends think I'm crazy because I talk about rocks. Luckily I have SOME friends that love rocks.

LOL! Yes you do...have friends who love rocks but some of us have no idea what a BIF is as we are the lesser gods who dwell here. Please explain the "BIF" and I'm sure we will all jump in!

BIF = Banded Iron Formation
Do you have pictures, morsefire? I just picked up a few small pieces and I'd like to tumble them.

They are cool and you're doing a great job with them! I can see why you find yourself enchanted with them! One of the things I find with working with rocks, if there's a material you're working that you find reaaaaalllly cool, it's best to keep working it and perfect what you're doing to the standard you'd like it to be at. Then you can easily move onto the next and it won't be nagging at the back of your mind. Great stuff!

What beautiful stones!!! Every few days, I see some new rocks I've never seen before here!
One thing I've noticed about tumbling with only a vibe... I have decided I like really rough rocks that are only made shiny on the face best. I only like rocks shiny so you can see the colors without wetting them:). Those are some really amazing bands!!!
