This past weekend at the Ogden gem show someone gave me these stones to sell on consignment. However, he lost the notes with the name. Here's all I know. They came from Russia. They are translucent to semi-transparent. They aren't demantoid or uvarvorite garnet. This was my first reaction. I'm guessing the hardness is around 6 to 7 *solely* based on the glassy appearance of the polish. I haven't been able to test them for RI, SG, DR, etc. I have sent the same pixs to my Russian gemstone connection. I just thought I would see if anyone here also may have an idea. If I hear anything from Russia, I'll certainly post the info. Thanks! Oh, yeah. I don't think I'll sell these. They'll probably become part of my collection

what makes you think there not the uvaroite? perhaps its apatite? 'cept apatite might not be hard enough to qualify

Thanks Daniel.
After I logged off last night i realized I forgot to mention they're probably not chrome diopside either. I ran that one by by friend also and he said no. However, I still think they might be diopside. The color and fiberous nature is right on.

I have some chrome diopside too - just specimens, most not as nice as your pieces, but if what you have isn't chrome diopside, then whatever it is, it's a dead ringer for chrome diopside. Most chrome diposide comes from Russia I believe.

I'm betting it's chrome diopside also and my friend has either forgotten or didn't understand the Russian in Quartzsite.
Thanks.
