Anyone got suggestions on how to re-furbish the barrel? It isn't quite circular any more and won't turn as a result. It's not a serious malformation; barely noticeable unless I'm trying to tumble.
Anyone got suggestions? Would a 4" pvc barrel work? I don't know if the motor is big enough to turn the pvc...

Lortone 3A & 33B have the same motor. I run two 4" pvc barrels on my 33B. I have never had a problum. James

Thx muchly, guys!
Walt, would you have hours for them? I called and got no answer, probably closed *LOL* I'll try again tomorrow.
James, how do you keep the pvc from slipping? I tried a test run with some basic pvc and it slid all over the rods, didn't catch enough to turn. Very discouraging... but I'm sure it's fixable *LOL*

You may have already checked it but make sure your belt is tight. I had a similar problem and tightened the belt and the barrel spun fine. They sell replacement barrels at many sites. I bought an extra barrelfor polishing from the rock shed online. Good luck.

I have a Lortone 3B - after about 3 tumbles from beginning to end, the belt needed adjusted - the barrels wouldn't spin - I tightened the belt and it is now working fine again.

How do I tighten the belt?

I had to tighten my belt after about three months. I have a 33B, but I think the procedure will be exactly the same. It's really easy. First, unplug the tumbler. Then remove the phillips screw on the top of the motor cover. The motor cover then slides off (away from the rivit opposite the screw you just removed. Look at the outside end of the machine where the cord comes out and you'll see three nuts. Loosen the nuts (don't remove them) and then push the motor in the direction that tightens the belt. Tighten the nuts back up while keeping the belt tight. Put the cover back on and you're done.
It's really easier than it sounds when written out. It should only take you five or ten minutes.

DJ, I use test caps on both ends on the pvc barrel. Test caps are black rubber caps that over the pvc pipe I buy some from Lowe's and from Locke Plumbing Suplies. The cost is about $4 to $5 each. I have got to learn how to post pictures. James
