While spending time in Quartzsite this winter, one day I was bored, so I visited T-Rocks to pick out a rock to cut. I found the miscellaneous Jasper and Agate pile with my trusty spray bottle and picked out my victim. The outside kinda looked like this.
It was the brown with the blue and white area that I had in my crosshairs. First I had to cut it in half so I could work with it a little better with my 7" saw. More blue than I would have liked, but the starry sky I had hoped for was there.
I quartered the halves and then looked at the angle I needed to cut to get more brown in the slab. I chose one quarter with the white in it.
Wasn't easy, but with extreme care, I got what I was going after.
Here are the slabs.
They look like a star-filled night sky over land, or snow falling at dusk.
I've worked Starry Night Pic Jasper before and I can tell you this is not it. Starry Night Jasper is finer grained, more like a Jasper and this was more like a Quartzite. Anyway, I cut one preform out of the end cut but haven't worked it yet. It's hanging on my bathroom wall, LOL (you should see my bathroom wall, it's filled with all kinds of special finds) and the four slabs are hanging on the wall in our bedroom. One of these days I'll work one into cabs.
All four slabs
The preformed cab (there's a ufo in the sky)
My bathroom wall
Hope you enjoyed this... oh, and if anyone knows what this is, please speak up.
Thanks for looking.
