If you have, I'd sure like to know what it is. I picked it up in Quartzsite in 2010 and the dealer had no idea what it is. They said that the frosty grey looking area turns a bright silvery golor on a black background when worked-up. I just found it in a slab box that I forgot about. Thinkin bout doin a cab from it for the May cab contest. any Id's or best guesses are appriciated..........gr

Yep, that appears to be the black jade with magnetite that comes from out by where the Stoddard tailgater show is held near Victorville, California. Jade comes from right near where the Verde Antique serpentized marble comes from.....Mel

John: I'm no mineral expert, but I'm pretty sure it's magnetite as marcasite, being a pyrite relative, is gold, not the silver gray of magnetite. The Porterville Jade I've collected has lots of magnetite too, so much so that a fridge magnet will stick to some of it, and the crystal structure is kind of rod like clusters like in the specimen pictured. That being said, I'll check my books and see if I can find out for sure......Mel

Yep John, checked my Sinkankas vol 2. He states "lustrous platey crystals of magnetite some of which are included in the nephrite and form remarkable feathery patterns when cut through and polished"....Mel
