Greg, everyone worries about shipping, yet why? I'm in Asia, and I refuse those charges all together.
Regular postal service works just fine and costs a few bucks. While I hardly ever would buy from China in the first place, I would not even look at ware that has 40-50$ shipping, because its pure fraud. Sending something into China and other countries around here might be a problem, but the other way round, I have yet to encounter a loss.
As for Ebays requirements: They have come up with a hell of a lot of rules that are only self-serving and are not enforceable at all (nothing but scare-tactics). Most of the time, I make it clear to the seller (I'm not selling) from the beginning, that I'm not willing to comply with those rules, so screw me over and get ready to set up a new account. Thus far, I have been screwed only twice in 12 years once by a seller who is even here on the forum and once by someone again in the USA, 6 years ago.
So you see, I would not recommend anyone dealing with China except if you have an established reliable contact, but being cheated, can happen anywhere.
Sorry for your loss, Kurt

I have researched the market over there for a number of different types of material from stones to tools and the one common denominator is their willingness to do and say whatever it takes to make the sale. It actually seems to be some sort of national pride to screw foreigners; I take that back, they'll do it to their own too.

I've only bought once from a Chinese dealer. I needed a bunch of those silica gel packs to put in with some moisture sensitive mineral specimens. I'm happy to say that I got exactly what I ordered, and they arrived quicker than expected.
After reading what has been posted here, I doubt that I'll do further business with Chinese dealers.

I do business with Chinese vendors sometimes. Shipping is dirt cheap on their end because it all comes over here in a conex box with a few tons of other stuff (that's why it takes so long sometimes). I've been wanting to purchase some Peitersite, but it seems like all of the rough comes from Chinese vendors, and I won't purchase rough from them because you never really know what you're getting. I just buy stuff like chokers (large lots) and cheap cabochons.

USPS global express is trackable, but it gets into the $75 range to China also and has a 20 lb limit.
Or you can cram all the broken pieces into a USPS global express flat rate envelope, same 20 lb limit and only costs $38 and is still trackable.
Of course return shipping is not refundable so you will have to eat it unless the seller offers to pay it.
I have bought pietersite from Chinese sellers before and have gotten some good pieces and some bad pieces.
Sorry you had a bad deal......................Tony

That sux! Sorry that happened to you. So far I have only bought cheap stuff from China (inexpensive, i mean). So far it has been as-advertised, but I'm sure that's not at all universal.
