Isn't serpentine around 4 - 4.5 on the mohs? I haven't tested it but it seems harder than serp.

I worked several cabs a few years ago. Only have a small piece left. It takes a pretty decent shine if you use a light touch on the sanding. Like most serpentine it's fibrous, so a light touch is mandatory. I just used cerium on leather, but diamond would probably bring up the best shine.

For a mirror polish, work it to a 1200 or 3000. Then use some zam on a buffing wheel.

Serpentine is our (California) state rock, but it doesn't look like that! Used to be used as gravel for roads, until it was discovered that asbestos was bad for you. Last time I was in northern California, there were still green roads.

If you work it dry, better where a mask. Work it with plenty water, and bury the mud when you clean up your machine.
