I'm on a roll now..... summertime! You guys are gonna get sick of me real soon, LOL!!!! This is Madagascar Labradorite that Dicky sent me. I cut a few slabs that were exceptional and I've been holding off cabbing them until now. Here's my first fave! The pics are of 3 different angles...... just want you guys to see how exceptional this stuff is! This cab is being set in silver for my Mom's birthday in August. It's my favorite lab I've ever done!!!!! This is the side that will hold the setting (flashes best as a pendant on the neck): Upside down, just as pretty: Sideways: Thanks for taking some of your time to look at some of mine!!!

WHOA!!! You got the shiny part dead centered!!!
I have some labradorite I'd like to try cabbing... but am not sure how to center it so the colors are visible from the front like you did. That's a really huge challenge if the slab wasn't cut shiny side up to begin with. Did you cut away a LOT from one side to do that? Is there a trick to centering the color if it's not on top already??

Krystee, these came out beautifully! I attempted to tumble some labradorite and it was a total (TOTAL) failure. You did an awesome job with these cabs. Paul

A lot of labradorite is full of fissures. Your material is among the cleanest I've seen.
I prefer to slab the rough labradorite myself so that I can orient slabs for maximum flash. I simply wet the stone and rotate it with my eyeline aligned with the angle of the sun behind me. then I use a grease pencil to mark the axis that is perpendicular to that eyeline. Easier to demonstrate than describe!

That's one of the prettiest lab cabs that I've seen, looks almost like a zebra pattern in the first pic. Sweet!!

Thanks!!! I think my Mom's going to love it!!! Jo, I ordered some sterling silver and gold cinch mounts from Rio Grand. I haven't used the pre-made settings before but they look really cool. I decided to try them out after getting a couple of other settings from the Traveling Rock Box that Don put in. I'm still waiting for my order to be delivered. If they work out the way I hope they will then that's what I will use, otherwise I will wire wrap it. Helen, I didn't get very many slabs that were full of color. Here's a picture of the best ones: Basically I just spent a lot of time looking at it wet in the sunlight trying to decide which direction to cut it. I nailed some of the cuts but there were others that didn't show much at all.

Wow! Those are mighty fine slabs with incredible orientation! You are going to get more fantastic cabs with that!!
Rockbasset, I've seen that suggestion before, but if you don't have room to cut again, I guess there's no simple answer to that. But thank you again for the heads up in case others haven't seen it:).

Thanks again! The sun peeked out from behind the clouds this morning so I rushed outside to get a picture in natural daylight. I like my indoor setup because it really shows off the shine but you can't beat the REAL SUN to bring out the flash!!!
