This is soft and I have cut small cabs from it but am very hesitant how to work with it. Then this one cracks and chips easily. It seems to have sparkley to it. Similar to Moonstone? I have yet to really work well with Moonstone, so can use all the help I can get there. Completely clueless as to how to work with this.

I am wondering if the Amazonite is harder than Moonstone.
Thoughts?

I can only help you as far as nephrite goes. I use plastic pads with diamond and only go to 3000 to get an excellent polish. If I use a leather pad with alum/ox the shine gets worse instead of better than the 3000. My steps are 50, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1000, 1500, 2000, 3000. You would not have to use all of those steps but you would have to work longer to get the scratches out if you skipped some. The nephrite is pretty easy to drill and grind plus you do not have to worry so much about it breaking because of the toughness.
The one piece of moon stone that I tried to work fell apart in pieces and should have been stabilized before I started. Other moon stone may be more solid than the one I tried. It had visible fractures.
Hope that helps Jim

Another thing that I would recommend is on the softer stone start at 200 or 250 first to see how it grinds the stone off. If it grinds off really slow you can drop down to 100. Jim

Work the Amazonite with a light touch. It tends to undercut, giving an orange peel finish. It will take a very nice polish.

Thanks all!!
I guess I will be waiting on these then, as I have no wheel or flat lap.
No worries, I have rocks coming out of my ears. So no lack of material to work with.
As Always!
