Found this on the shore of Lake Huron in the Upper Penninsula of michigan - It is pretty soft around a 4 on the moh scale. Anyone have any idea what it is? Thanks, Chuck

Agree with Tammy. Could it be fossil shells in matrix?

Rhyolite is sometimes very soft, and I've seen a lot of weird patterns in the stuff I find on the North Shore of Lake Superior. That's be my guess.

Rhyolite is my guess too. I found some like that last week in the UP. After you work it, please post some pictures. Scott
