Tough time to be a Lobsterman, great time to be a Lobster eater!
Wholesale prices are near 30year lows for this time of year due to the big glut of keepers.
My local grocery store is selling them for 3.99/pound, steamed!
Can't feel too sorry for them, we paid about $19each for lobster rolls in Ogunquit(Barnacle Billys) just a few weeks ago and I'm sure the Lobster glut will run out soon(I'm personally doing my best to help them poor Lobsterman get backk on track)
Enjoy it while you can!

LObster Glut not here in NJ. I normally get the big tails and make my own little lobster fest. I do GREAT TAILS. I was shocked to find that at my local Wegmans ( a super market that has and can get anything) the biggest tails available were 6 ounce-rs. I was told that they were unable to get the big uns . As far as prices for their live they are still at the $9.99/lb price point as they have always been. There definitely needs to be some sort of redistribution of this wealth (of lobster) down my way LOL Guess I am going to have to get some 3-5Lb'rs in order to get those big tails and then I get the claws as a bonus YUM YUM As for the shrimp my way Bubba Gump would be pround lol and tthe giant deep sea scallops No Problemmmm (there I go sounding Jersey) as far as the corn they are practically giving that away and is it sweeet Stu

Lately, I've been worried about eating shrimps and lobsters with all the oil cleanups. All shellfish are bottom feeders, and when they spread that stuff up top to make the oil sink down, that's what they eat. Bit scary...

Uncle Stu - you are a myhbuster - the wives tale says big lobsters are too tough to eat, LOL. Jersey Tomatoes are the best in the world.. the corn up here in Mass is as good as any. We just got our first and it is sweet. We were getting Ga Corn before this and even that was sweet and flavorful. Wegmans is a trip ... just opened here in Mass last year and a couple more are coming soon
Bill - those big lobsters are something - 27 pounder in Maine and 21 pounder here...I think the Maine one was purchased and thrown back in . They will try to do the same with the 21 pounder

You folks on the eastern seaboard do have some good eating! To grow corn here one has to grow small early season varieties such as Golden Bantam. (82 days) The season is not long enough to develop the sugars in real sweet corn.
I would let the big lobster go too. He is probably around 140 years old, meat would be full of every heavy metal and chemical since the Ind. revolution. Best to let them breed.

You know something Bill any lobster over 5lbs is not good eating very tough. As far as heavy metal contamination like mercury you really need to stay away from the large ocean fish like tuna and sword fish as they are known to contain high mercury levels.

You're saying it all wrong- it's lobsta.
My mom's people were lobstermen and fishermen in Maine for over 200 years. ;D
My relatives say they freak out to hear me talk with my family looks and Southern accent! LOL! But, Mom taught me how to say lobsta the right way, by God. Grew up with summers in Maine and some wicked clam bakes. (oh and lotsa lobsta).
