Now these did not turn out so good. I put in some stones i picked up in NY city with these and the stones did not take a shine on the crystal part of the stone. The stones were a clear off white in colour. So back they go for a retumble without the white stones.

With my lakers, I've noticed I have to add quite a bit of ceramic so they don't ding each other and so the quartz doesn't crackle.

I never had any problems with my lakers but I think because they were all smaller rocks (size of a quarter and under). I imagine the larger the rocks the more violent the tumble as far as need for cushion. Good luck with the re-tumble.

Not too bad. Lakers do take FOREVER in course. Cusioning is important to cause they beat the crude out of everything (including each other). I would take them all the way back to course and work them with other hard quartz materials.

I've cracked Lakers in the tumbler when I didn't fill the barrel with the proper amount and mix of sizes. In the 60/90 and the 120/220 I use ceramic media, the big ones and the small ones, to achieve that. I switch to plastic media for the pre-polish and polish stages. In my vibe (UV-10) however, I stick with ceramic media all the way through. There isn't anything you can do though if the Laker in the rough is already riven with fractures, as many are.
