Very nice! Looks velvety. Very nice work. Interesting how it changes color tones a little in the different stages.

Awe, Mexican Royal Velvet! LOVE that stuff!!!! What I love the most is that in a good quality slab you can get a cab that you can angle it in almost any direction and get different colors at every angle!
From the pictures it looks like that's what you got. Lucky!!!! It looks awesome!!! (My FAVE material!!!!!!!)

Hey, that looks great to me. My first one was terrible- only one half had a little color. I can't imagine how much better yours would look with better light.

Wow, that looks great! I had a chance to get a good deal on some Obsidian slabs a couple of weeks ago, but turned it down because I didn't think anything could be done with it... now I know better! Again, great job!

That's awesome work Stu and you got an excellent shine for someone who's new to ob (getting it to shine w/out being hazy seems to be the bane of everybody new to the stuff).
One of the coolest things about this kind of ob (and any sheen or velvet or similar) is that you can do neat things with orientation and different doming styles. The dome acts like a lens in the most literal sense you'll ever encounter with rocks.
Anyway, great job!

I had a chance to take some pictures outside to show the shine ;D Boy now I can see why Krystee loves this stuff, it looks different in every light and angle. Frank I can see what you mean by the material having a lens like effect. I am going to do a really high dome cab when I get some more OB to see the difference. Thanks to everyone for all the kind words and compliments. Cathy, as far as entering it, if you were me would you? LOL NOW FOR THE SHINING Thanks for looking Stu

Great cab stu, super shine and killer material. is the edge of the cab rough? It looks a little uneven in some of the pics. are you putting a back bevel on the cab to prevent chip-out on that back edge?

wow, that shine is amazing.
so are you shaping and polishing on a wheel or flat lap, and what progression of coarseness do you use? My only attempts at obsidian have ended in absolute failure (very hazy) - I have some amazing slabs to try out but don't want to until I can have shiny success like this (or as close as I can get)
really nice work and great material!
