Well, I've tried to stay away several times... but politics here is almost like the forum's version of tackle football, and some enjoy it immensely, without feeling hurt from being disagreed with, or even disliking their opponent.
Politics and religion on any forum is like the internet version of sports, and some people find it incredibly amusing. I don't understand why anyone has trouble avoiding the topics tho. I go through periods when I don't feel like reading it and just don't. Not sure why people who don't even like it feel they have to.
Until this forum, I've never even heard of anyone who used the 'read last 50 notes' button, when every unread post is already highlighted on the right of the main forum with the last post by subject, author, date/time. It seems easier to just pick the subjects you like to read all the time.
I'd go so far as to say that for some people, THIS is why they stay on this forum instead of other rock forums.
I'm not complaining at all about people who don't like the discussions. But even tho it can get heated, the VAST majority of the time, I don't think anyone takes it personally. Like 2 of my favorite people to argue with is Don (Jakesrocks), and Mel, and I like them both very much, and I think (hope?) they know it:). Some people just enjoy the mental exercise of argument. I mean with politics, it's not like any of us can control the outcome... so our arguing amounts to debating say football play tactics.
I don't think the admin can control the last 50 posts button... I don't think he can program the database (don't know, maybe he can). Maybe he can choose not to show it tho, and it would eliminate the confusion?
