While I don't really get your message as to being positive or not; I for one applaud them for doing it. The Olympics are supposed to be about fairness despite being completely commercialized.

The Olympic ideals speak about sportsmanship and participating and giving your best effort - they are, as you note, anything but that. The International Olympic organizers have proven time after time to break their own rules, solicit bribes from nations wanting to host the show. They are the supreme "do as I say, not as I do" collective.

For once in my life, I have to agree with you Charlie. Gymnastics and figure skating are 2 prime examples of where the corrupt Olympic Organization have reared their ugly heads. Not so this year with the gymnasts, although they did take less than the required points off of a Russian girls score last night for a bad mistake on the balance beam. But we'll see it before the games are over.

I missed this but if they were trying to lose - why not just forfeight?
This has got to be the most political rock forum I have ever heard of. Not that this is so bad but is there no way to block specific areas of the board so that those who enjoy them - can, and those of us who don't can ignore them?
Politics are great discussion (and debate) especially these days of late, but it's so distracting from rocks, including olympic politics and corruption et al.

It is one of those cases where they would face an easier opponent in the next round if they were to lose the final qualifier...so it is a case where it seems smart to lose..

3rdrock, You are not required to click on the political stuff. A lot of people here do it. Jim

Rock, you are right... I try to ignore the politics, but I just can't help myself when I see some of the comments. Look at it this way... it won't be much of a discussion for 4 years after November:).
In the meantime, don't click on the subjects that look political:P.

3rdrock, You are not required to click on the political stuff. A lot of people here do it. Jim It takes up quite a bit of the page in topics alone at times, annnd - they are not always labeled such that it's easy to tell they're political. I don't think it was an out of line question or an unreasonable observation given the title of the forum.

Unfortunately money rules and the OC does what every other major league in the world does. Just look at some comments that where recently made about Jeremy Lin, for not chasing the money, and he is not even that good an athlete to benign with.

Frank, if you read the line directly below where it says "Life, the Universe and Everything", it explains what this section is about. If you don't want to read our arguments, then just skip this section.

Most civilizations take care of this nonsense in about a month. Not sure I understand what you just said there... Seems like for 2 years they've been complaining about Obama, sure... but in November, they CAN"T complain about Obama anymore, win or lose. He can't run again regardless of the outcome of the election. Right?

I just hit 'new topics' (which yields a list that does not show what you just said) and hope most of them are about rocks. I'd be here all day if I went through all sections of interest individually.
Anyway, apparently there is no way to set a section to ignore.
Thanks anyway.

Frank |I totally agree with you. I for one only click new topics and in new topics there is no indication as to what board a specific thread originated. Yet at times there are a large percentage of threads in new topics that are as you said political and nothing to do with rocks. For the most part I do find it amusing in that so many people have so much time to spend debating about life in the universe on a rock forum. If I had that much time I know I would be spending it on my rocks as I am sure you would as well.
LOL I just realized that I wrote to express my agreement with Frank who in all likelihood will never read my post. Oh well I know no clickie no problemo OK back to your debate

I didn't even realize there was a 'last 50 posts' til a couple weeks ago.

It bothers me that they show up on that same page because it scrolls rock related things off the page. Well - that's one reason it bothers me.
