I can see why you want to get some. It is very striking. If I come across any I will let you know. Yet another to add to the bucket list of stone I want. Stu

Nice looking stone. At Quartzsite coming up, maybe?

The way the description is written in the last 2 links, my guess is that both are from the same seller. Pretty material which might be thick enough to split and make low dome cabs. If I remember correctly, there's American material that is very similar to that Russian material. Maybe one of our folks will remember what it's called.

Looks a lot like Noreena jasper or munjina stone which are a silicified pelites, mudstone type material....Mel

Yeah, Helen, I've noticed that last one a few times. If I didn't already have more Noreena than I'll ever use, I'd totally grab that. You should! Although I see a bunch of fractures. Also, the white looks like it could be brighter. I haven't decided where I come out on the issue of "how white does the white have to be" yet. But the patterns on that one are amazing.
All, I see the Noreena/Mujinas as being quite different than the russian (pricey) one. The Noreenas are gorgeous and I love them, but for lack of a better word, they are a little cartoon-like (and I don't mean that in a bad way). The russian ones look more like photos to me, versus paintings for the noreena. Does that make sense?
Thanks for finding the slabs, Tammy and Stardiamond (sorry, I don't know your name). And good idea about Quartzite, gr. It gives me a quest! What's a gigantic swap meet without a quest?
Maybe the dude selling all the cabs will sell me a preform for the same price as a cab. Hmm. Unless he's just importing them.

Well, I would agree with you on the mujina (which is found exactly in the same spot as the Noreena... so I guess they differentiate it by the degree of 3D ness??)... not so sure about the Russian. The only real difference I see with the russian is that the lines are maybe finer? Background is creamier colored, more spikey patterns tighter together (tho noreena can do that too), and has olive green in some pieces.
Maybe that's it... there's more than 3 colors in the stones. But it too looks 'cartoony', and what I mean by that is flat, 2D. I guess you'd have to show me the Russian piece you are in love with so we can compare better:).
I've fallen in love with certain stones before, so I totally get what you mean:).

That's pretty neat Susan:)! But that particular one seems to have a lot of small cracks. I do see what you mean by the depth... BUY IT! It's already a cab, and when will you see that again? If something under $20 moves me that much, life is too short to regret when you can afford it:P. You can wire it and wear it every day:)!
Ohh... willow creek and morrisonite (the good stuff) makes me slobber!! But can't afford the ones I am in love with:(. One thing that I've found in shaping them is the 'good stuff' absolutely grinds differently than other stones. It's VERY hard, but grinds almost perfectly uniformly... like obsidian, despite the great hardness. Just amazing stuff, and I wish I had more of it!! Good owyhee do the same thing. I have some doozies in my tumbler right now:).
I have 2 very small slabs of each, and will take pix of them when out. They are teeny, but the best of the best material with insane pictures in each. The morrisonite is only 1" by 1/2" (did I mention teeny?)... there's a mountain range with purple sky and in a 1" x 1/2" picture, looks almost exactly like my screen saver of a real life mountain. Will post them when done, you are going to go WOW!!! And the willow creek is this indescribable pink 'tornado' orbital... you won't believe it either, and it is also tiny... 1" x 3/4". But both are beyond words. I can't stop myself from going out to the tumbler and picking at them every 10 minutes. It's like sitting on eggs and waiting for them to hatch or something. LOL!

I don't want a cab that somebody ELSE made! lol. I don't know why I feel that way, I just do. I don't buy other photographers' pictures (or even like to look at them) either.

I don't want a cab that somebody ELSE made! lol. I don't know why I feel that way, I just do. I don't buy other photographers' pictures (or even like to look at them) either. See, as an artist, I totally understand that sentiment. BUT, I also love to collect other people's work, because as an artist, it's going to always be different from mine. Everyone has their own unique style that they developed, and the thing about other people's work is, if you could do it, you wouldn't want it (maybe that's the reason you don't want this cab, you could make it too), and if you do want it, it's because you can't do it or you do it very differently. I started a thread for a contest based on this convo... started thinking hrm... we all love rocks. We all have rocks. But what is THE PERFECT rock? Everyone's concept of that is very different of course... which is exactly why I'd like to see what everyone's concept is:). Please enter all you guys!!! It's eye candy for us all:).
