Star Diamond has been out of business for a number of years, but they made good, long lasting equipment.

Good equipment. I have the same unit. I also have a few of their arbors and a 14" saw.

thank you for that info, next question i guess, does anyone carry parts for star diamond or are other companys parts interchangeable with star diamond. if unit on e-bay sells cheap enough and parts are available it might be a good buy. thanks again joejan

Depends on what you are looking for. I could not find the water valves and I looked forever. Finally ended up using multiple gang valves to get the water to each wheel. Everything else seems pretty universal. Arbors, shaft, etc. The only thing you will run into is that certain Star models used a thread pattern on the end of the shaft (for a face plate) that is impossible to find. I bought a face plate that was tapped for a 3/4 screw and drilled it out. I found the correct tap at a tractor repair shop and borrowed it. Took forever to find a place that had the right tap. Scott

thanks again scott,
i make wampum, which is made out of seashells, i use rotary tumblers to grind and polish them. i have been learning how to make a cab with my gem lab 2 two wheel grinder, 1 expando wheel which i have 400, 600, 1200, grinding belts and 3,000, and 14,000 diamond polishing belts this unit would save me a lot of work. joejan

Star Diamond went under in 1998 and was picked up by MK. It ran as Barranca Diamond for 8 years and then merged into MK as the lapidary division. They still make some Star Diamond equipment and carry some parts. The brass aquarium valves were replaced with expensive stainless steel valves. The vibrating flat laps dropped out before MK/BD took over. The tumbler line was sold to Lortone before they went under as well. The Star diamond equipment was very heavy duty typical of the HP/Frantom era built to last stuff.

Might check Covington for the valves. They still carry them, and have screw on spray caps for them as well.

We have one of those Star Diamond grinding machines too, like it a lot; rugged and durable, easy to get at the wheels with the rocks.

I also have a Star Diamond cabber. I like it just fine and have had no problems. The thread size for the end polishing plate is a 5/8" fine thread and backing plates are available for them from Kingsley-North.
