Kay, I'm in need of ceramic pellets. I've tried lowes, home depot and color tile. All I can come up with is 3/16 plastic. Any ideas? Thanks Clyde

Hello, Hobbyists - I am a visitor and apologize if I am breaking any rules with this post. Bottom line - I have FREE rocks and a small amount of tumbling supplies and would LOVE it if someone in Costa Mesa or nearby would come get them from me. My mother was a school teacher, and she collected rocks for educational purposes. I'm cleaning out her garage. I have no way of knowing if anything I have is valuable, but suspect that it would be worth a trip by someone who was close. Total "haul" would easily fit into a car trunk, so it's not a lot. Any advice would be welcome. (She also collected shells....)

Sorry - off topic for a moment. @"Visitor" - I'm in Costa mesa and would be glad to take them off your hands. Please PM me or email me on the link underneath my name. And I just left you a PM as well.
Thanks Paul

Clyde - Sorry, back on topic. I use the 3/16 in tile spacers. They seem to work okay. I got them from the local HomeDepot but I'm sure you could find them in any building supply / home improvement store.

Later Clyde Hmmmm, doing the math, an average car will burn up about 4 gallons of gas, 2 gallons up and 2 gallons back. I'll be willing to bet that the shipping will be cheaper. Besides, Shaun is cool ;D

Before you drive to Eugene, have a look at the big sporting goods store on the south end of Lancaster, just before hwy 22.

It's Shawn! Not Shaun! Geez Louise! :-)
But yeah, you better get used to the shipping. Just wait till you start buying more rocks. The trick is to buy a whole bunch of stuff at once - you can fit about 20+ pounds of rocks into a $11 medium flat rate box . . . that's a lot of tumbling material. ;-) And like 40 lbs into a Large flat rate box.
So, the way to economize is to buy a whole lot of stuff at once. Which is fun too. :-)
And by the way, welcome!

Clyde, if you don't mind a little oil residue I have a bunch of pellets that came in my mega tumbler. The guy was trying to tumble custom metal parts for bike frames and there is a light coat of oil on the pellets, but they are the same pellets I bought from therockshed. How much do you want?

I don't know how good this is to contribute. I heard of folks using cut up jeans in their tumbler. I was going to try it then thought the jeans may absorb the polish and would like be wasteful.
I had bags of rubber bands laying around and decided to cut them up and use instead. I I'm trying it out on hematite and quartz rolling right now with pellets and some ceramic. Seems to be taking well so far on polish stage.
