that is the question ...found this pet in a local creek my guess is that it wont be that interesting but it is neat to find here in columbia missouri also can anyone tell what kind of wood it is. i know some of you are rock awesome AT id;s

I'd at least take a slice off of one end and polish it. from there you could evaluate it's lapidary potential. Then again, it is a rather nice specimen as it is.

Personally I wouldn't cut the first one. Chances are you would be disapointed and it's got a great shape like it is.

I would cut them . they look similar to wood i find here. they vary quite a bit on the inside more than the out .

if I found that I would cube it and sphere it.
How many specimens does one need? Further, what will happen to the specimens when I die? They'll get sold for $0.25 a pound to all the local lapidarists. Why shouldn't I get all the fun? hehe
