Hello all,
I am just discovering this amazing hobby.
I would like to buy 4-6 pounds of nice rocks (ideally a mix) for my first couple of rounds of tumbling ( I got two 3lb tumblers from Harbor Freight)
Any suggestions to where to get suck rocks (many sellers I have found do not ship to Canada, those which do charge a lot for shipping.)
Thank you all!
PS: I am in Oakville, ON

unfortunately rock shipping is very expensive. I think the postal service in the US is run at a loss and as soon as it hits Canada or ships in Canada, the costs are way higher; or it could be that with 25 times as many people, the costs average out differently:<). I know, I live here too.

I haven't shipped to Canada in a while but flat rates in the US use to ship world wide for one low rate. If that is still the case, you should be able to pick up a box of rocks fairly cheap - shipping wise.

Thank you all. I understand shipping is probably expensive - would you have any recommendation for me to where to buy from (especially if you are also in Canada )

Welcome aboard Gadgetguy. Why not find your own tumbling rocks ? Ontario Province is rich in rocks and minerals. Many of which are ideal for tumbling. Here's a link which will give you an idea of what can be found around your area. ontariominerals.com/ Unfortunately the bottom half of that page is taken up by advertisements.

do you know anyone just across the border, maybe in Buffalo, who could recieve MFRB and hold them until you can make the short drive to fetch them? also try cameroncreekmining.ca/index.php/store/ for their Canadian tumbling mix, as well as the dallasite tumbling mix.

Hey gadgetguy, have the material shipped to the closest border town on the USA side.
I live in Winnipeg Manitoba and have my USA purchases shipped to holder in Pembina, North Dakota. They hold the package for a month and charge 5 dollars. I just drive 90 minutes, cross the border and pick it up. Sometime I accumulate 2 or 3 packages to make it worth while to drive. I personally use Mikes General Store as my holder.
Since the Canadian dollar has been close to par many of these businesses have been poping up all along the Canada/US border. I have sure saved a lot of money buying in the US.

Welcome!
We are close to you,
We deal 95% in Labradorite, but also have small amounts of just about every stone there is. If you have a wish list feel free to PM or post. I can see what we have. If we do not have it, or enough of it I can always source it or have it slipped into one of our orders for you.

You may find it cheaper to order from the US on any larger amounts of rock, our postage here in Canada is worse than theirs I have found and almost all the suppliers in my area are already adding the extra freight cost into their selling price so watch out for that. The best way to get cheap rock is to watch the auctions on the buy and sell here and pay the freight, it is still a very reasonable price. I am in Alberta and shop a lot from the US
