so I ran the tumbler I got last night to see if it worked and I put about 1/2 full cotainers of water (2) on it after adding a couple drops of 3in1 to the bearings which were a little dry from sitting.
anyways..... the motor didn't turn at first, we had to give it a little help but then away it wen... so I added a little more oil to it and then put the barrles on... the motor got pretty hot after an hour of run time, not too hot to touch but pretty hot and I was wondering if this is normal for a loritone tumbler?? or maybe the motor is due for replacement?? I couldn't get the model number off it as it is worn away, but it looks to be an older version of the QT66. Will a QT66 motor fit it??
Inquiring minds want to know !! lol :help:
your thoughts are always appreciated!!

They run hot. Hot enough to burn you if you touch them in the wrong place. That is normal, just try to run it in a cool(er) location, like a basement, or well ventilated at least. Some folks use a small fan for that. Some folks shut them down in the heat of the summer if they don't have any place to run them where it isn't already hotter than Hades.

I use a spray called 12/34 that you can spray inside the motor that will dramatically increase the motor life. Just get it into every part that you can. I have taken motors that do not work at all and sprayed it with this and they start working again. It is hard to find, but if you can find it somewhere it works wonders. Luckily I have a local distributor here, so if you can't find it anywhere else I could probably get some for you. www.armitelabs.com/1234.htmlTony

In Canada it seems to be called Jet Lube 12/34.
Tony; the description is very WD-40 like. How does it compare to WD-40 from your experience?
Thanks!

When my bearings get gummed-up enough to stop or slow down the barrel I clean them out with acetone or lacquer thinner on a Q-tip. It evaporates quickly and doesn't leave any residue. Sometimes it takes a bit to loosen up the gunk, but once it does it's amazing how much black crap rinses out onto the Q-Tip. Once it runs pretty clear I lubricate them again with light machine oil.

I have both old and new Lortones, QT6's & QT12. All run hot and require kick starting. That's normal. All use the same motor. What's not normal is keeping them as clean as these were when new. Larry

If you have an air compressor, blow the dust out of the motor once and a while. Tom

Not the same stuff, an old guy showed this stuff to me, he calls it miracle spray. He gave me a can to try, now I buy a case from him about once a year. Works good on guns too.

Lortone tumblers run quite hot and get's worst during the summer. I have mine on top of some marble tiles because they don't absorb the tumbler's heat to make the situation worst. In fact I actually think they actually help in dissipating the heat. Other stone tiles could be use as well. Dora
