These stones are moving on to 220 grind in my rotary. All pics taken dry after finishing in 60/90. First the rough - mostly wonderstone and lizardstone: The wonderstone (piece with the quarter on it weighs 3/4 pounds): Lizardstone: Lapis in various shades: Pyrite, Obsidian and a pice of who knows what my neighbor found in the driveway: Boulder opal and malachite:

You've done a nice job of shaping that rough. I have wondered whether boulder opal could take a tumble. I guess we're gonna find out. Looking good all around.

I read on this forum one time that you should never let your stones dry between stages. I'm not sure exactly why but I now keep my stones in water throughout the whole process.

Never heard that - except with opal. But I'm taking a big chance just tumbling the stuff...

I didn't think you could tumble all those different stones together.

Malachite, lapis and BO were all out after 1 or 2 weeks in 60/90. The Wonderstone/LizardStone probably a minimum of 6 weeks. I'm suprised the softer stones held up as well as they did - they are just chips and some of the wonderstone were over 1 pound pieces.
No special care taken, just some ceramic media to act as grit carrier and cushion. We'll see if my luck holds through the rest of the stages.

That mix of stone is amazing. But the size(1 pound!) is even more amazing.I worry about big rocks beating the others or especially each other too much. The ceramic media as a cushion is very interesting-made a believer out of me and thanks for the -technology.
