K..... Big question.... Why are lapidary band saws better than a simple trim saw? What do they do better than a trim saw, angles, curves? Is it just the thin blade? You can't slab on them so.... WHAT IS IT??? What makes them so special and a favorite of glass artists and many lapidaries??? I cut a lot of obsidian.... WHY IS A BAND SAW BETTER? Gotta know, it's driving me crazy

IMO it is not better. It is slower. I like fast. I can cut real close to the lines with a trim saw, and I can even pre-grind a bit.
The one thing the band saw can do is tight inside curves. SO if you want to cut out the outline of the 50 states ... or make hearts with a deep v-notch ... OK
But it is a specialty tool complement to a trim saw. Heck I have even cut most of a shape on a trim saw and just did the final little inside-curve bit with the band saw.
