I REALLY appreciate the thank yous.
I just hope that the ones that have come after me are cared for the way they were promised. We fought for you so I am asking you to fight for us but please do not turn this thread into a political argument. It was not started for that purpose Thank you Jim

Hey, Jim:
My Dad is a veteran. Served as a pilot in Strategic Air Command back in the 50's, flying the B-36 Peacekeeper. I had two uncles, long since gone, who served as well, one with the 442nd RCT in Italy and one with the MIS in the Pacific Theater. One of my cousin's son's recently joined the Marines, graduating from Pendleton in July.
My right to vote has been paid for with the blood of my uncles who served while their families remained in Internment Camps here on the mainland. I will ALWAYS defend those who served in our military. They are the ones who've ensured that this nation is a free nation.
My thanks to you, my friend, for serving the greatest country God has blessed this planet with.
Thanks Paul Shiroma

Thanks all. We served because we believe in this country.
Hey Paul, did your dad serve at March AFB in the 50's ? Those damned B 52's used to rattle our house worse than the earthquakes.

Don - no, he was based in Carswell AFB, TX. He flew before the B-52 was in service, piloting the B-36. At the time, SAC was under the command of Gen. Curtis LeMay. Dad occasionally tells me stories of his service time. I enjoy hearing them. One time, forgetting that he served in the 1950's, I asked him what the payload was of a B-36 - did they carry Mark 82 high explosive 2,000 lbs bombs? Thousands of pounds? That kind of stuff.
He chuckled and said, "No, we only carried one bomb and the YIELD was measured in MEGATONs." LOL!
Castle AFB in central California has an Air Force museum with the reconnaissance version of the B-36 (http://www.castleairmuseum.org/convair_rb36h.html). Interestingly, the fuselage is painted with with the names of a couple of pilots he served with some 60 years ago. He was invited to see the opening of the museum (or something like that) as a former B-36 pilot. When he's down here, we sometimes go to the Chino Air Museum - Planes of Fame, as it has several models of aircraft that he's flown, both as a former USAF pilot and retired commercial airline pilot. Inevitably, he ends up talking shop with the docents and volunteers. Most of them have flown B-17s, B-29, or something like that. Most of them have never met a B-36 pilot so, when they find out about him, he usually ends up spending an hour or two with them. It's great to see.
Love my Dad.
And thank you, Don, for serving as well. Paul
