I didnt know anything about heat treating before I purchased this brazilian agate. Can you tell by the picture if it has been heat treated or not? Friend of mine said that brazilians are mostly clear agate and he said theres a good chance this one was heat treated. I thought it was neat looking. I also have the other half to this one and it is perfect with no fractures.

many are not clear/translucent. but heat treating can enhance red/brown. hard to say. maybe

well I was just wondering if the the fracture came from heating ? if it not on the other side maybe only one side was heat treated causing the fracture ?
regardless, if it was heat treated it was done really well and not cheesy-- like those dyed ones that are so obvious

Is it common practice for the Brazilian agates to be heat-treated? LOL, tandl, not too crazy about the dyed ones either, especially the pink ones.

Those colors do occur in good quality natural Brazilians. Sometimes you can tell if it's heat treated if the rind looks kind of whitish and burnt but yours looks untreated to me. Like ginger said, I hate the dyed examples but some of the heat treated ones are really nice....Mel

Looks like stuff in the recent batch I got that is definitely not heat treated. I don't know about clear agate brazilians, at least in everything I have ever cut I have never cut one that was clear and nothing else.

Found this picture today. This one looks even nicer than the pics. The colors are rich and it has a flawless polish.
