Or should I say , Up to their usual trick of collecting a paycheck without working, a no-show job if there ever was one.
John Boehner may be a sly fox and a real tough person to bargain with, but he is civil and has at least talked to Democrats when things are bad and about to be disastrous.. but this poor guy has been reduced to a laughing stock by his own people over the past few years. He cannot get his party to agree to do anything useful or productive. Understanding that the fiscal cliff is only days away he puts forward a compromise plan that had very little compromise in it and his boys in the House still reject it. This is why nothing gets done in Washington. If you cannot get everything your way, F**k the people and do nothing. If you get 90% your way, refuse the deal. If you get 99% your way, refuse the deal. We have principles (and Grover Nordquist) to follow and we don't care how it hurts the country.

I wonder how all the people who were singing their praises to the tea party feel now.

I have not studied it but from what I have seen it is more like a physical curb than a physical cliff. Not my quote, someone said it before me. Jim

So all the Democrats are sitting there doing their job and waiting for the Republicans to catch up?
We cannot keep raising the debt ceiling, it won't fix it. My credit card company won't let me raise my limit when I get so much debt on my card I can't pay for it. Why should my government be able to do so?
So let's blame it on the Republicans, we all know the Democrats had nothing to do with that.
Personally I would fire them all and charge them with treason..........................Tony

The administration plan is to raise taxes on a few to net less than 2% of the deficit, but offset that by spending 75% of the increased taxes in new spending. Spending cuts are nonexistent in the Obama plan, only some reductions in spending increase (I know they call it "cuts" but it isn't). Boehners plan was really not much different. I'm comvinced they all plan to go over the fiscal speed-bump, especially POTUS. The problem is our 2 party mentality. Dems and Reps BOTH must become extinct for the Union to survive.

Yep, both sides ain't doing diddly. Democrats won't cut spending in any real way ( and that's where the real problem is) and Republicans wont raise taxes in any real way so off the cliff we go. Meanwhile all these jerks whose checks we pay go on vacation and we all pay the bills. I especially like the part where, while the country is in dire straits, they are too cheap to pay for movie tickets so go to a special screening which I'm sure we paid for too....Mel

We should make it illegal for them to travel any way but coach and have to stand in line and go through security like the rest of the country...no private jets or military flights or charters just for them...they might decide not to go home for the holidays...and yes, no special screenings or tickets to bowl games Charlie

If that law started at the top and went downhill, I'd agree with what Charlie just said. None of them from the top of the heap on down are doing what we're paying them to do. Maybe we should dock their pay and special benefits.

In all of OUR stupidity we just reelected all the House and 1/3 of the Senate. Damn few of the old bunch were fired! I find it difficult to blame them when we keep returning them to their same old jobs. What was that saying (sometimes quoted from Einstein) "Stupidity is continuing to do the same thing and expecting a different result" Bob

"Stupidity is continuing to do the same thing and expecting a different result" Or continuing to elect political parties and expecting statesmen?
