This one was fun for me because it has my first cut rocks. Got a tile saw mid-fall and used it any time I could until it got cold. Here's everything the "reds" Some of the precuts Other stuff......

nice batch.. I want to know about the 3rd photo too. cool patterns and colors. The rocks in the third photo are to the best of my knowledge a type of chert. I find it near the Vermillion River in LaSalle county Illinois. This area has lots of exposed sandstone and dolomite from the Pennsylvanian and Ordovician periods. According to research I've done the limestone present in that area has been described as "cherty". There is also a significant amount of glacial erratic in the same area. When I find it , larger pieces often have a soft outer rind, and smaller ones have oxidation that ranges from yellowish to reddish brown. When broken or cut open it is most often varying shades of Gray. About 1 in 10 will have the various shades of brown. I was thoroughly surprised by the blue in these. I have once seen something similar described as Illinois Picture Stone. That might be a proper name or made up ......
