How thick shouls a slab for double thick cabs be? I have some slabs that are a 1/2 inch thick, mostly very ugly mexican crazy lace I got off ebay. Ripoff, I can hardly see the pattern even wet. 99 cent specials. Do they suddenly pop when cabbed? They r definitely the ones piced but I dont know how the seller got yhem to be so vibrant n colorful. The patterns match.

I like to start with a 3/8" thick slab.

Lace is the best polishing stuff ever. If you want a great shine, work on lace I bet it turns out a lot better than you think! T

I use whatever thickness I have. But I don't "cab" them all the way by hand. I rough shape on a 100 grit wheel (both sides) then throw them in the vibe tumbler. They're a lot easier that way, and I can do 60 or 70 at a time that way. The vibe doesn't care how thick.
