Okay this is a two parter with front and back picture. This was found at Pescadero State Beach, California. This is pre-tumble (with MULTIPLE "coarse" grinds due the pits and cracks) Before I start, is this chalcedony or quartz? Attachments:

Thanks! That's right, I remember reading something about the pock-marks/pits in agates.

Um, first time there. So i'm really new to what's what. I know the area is known for agates and I think petrified whale bone. I know Monterey and SLO County to some degree ;D...but not here.

Collecting out west on the beach is about as good as it could get.I hunt in small rivers in S Georgia and Florida via boat or kayak. It's all about the sorroundings, beautiful places.

James, if you get a chance, I think you would really like the Los Padres National Forest/Jade Cove in Big Sur area. Occasionally some really nice nephrite pops-up there. Also San Simeon in San Luis Obispo County has some really nice jasper chert combos. What kind of stones do you search for in your area? I know somewhere in the South you can find some really nice amethysts.

Henry, It looks like quartz to me. Is that the same one I said looked like plumes inside? It looks different from one photo to the other. Lynn

Ugh. disappointed that it is quartz. I guess better luck next time. I pulled it out of the tumbler and it's becoming clear in color. I guess it will make a good "leaverite" paper weight LOL. I guess I should stick to jade.
