Just got my taxes done yesterday, and e-filed. Getting a little money back, we'll see how long it takes to be deposited to my bank account.
In the meantime, here's an oldie but goodie joke about taxes:
A man was called in for an audit by the IRS, so he asked his accountant for advice on what to wear.
"Wear your worst clothing and an old pair of shoes. Let them think you are a pauper," the accountant replied.
Then he asked his lawyer the same question, but got the opposite advice.
"Don't let them intimidate you. Wear your best suit and an expensive tie."
Confused, the man went to his Rabbi who would surely know the correct answer.
He told him of the conflicting advice he had received, and asked what he should do.
"Let me tell you a story," replied the Rabbi. "A woman, about to be married, asked her mother what to wear on her wedding night. Her mother advised, 'Wear a heavy, long, flannel nightgown that goes right up to your neck and wool socks.'
"But when the woman asked her best friend, she got conflicting advice. 'Wear your sexiest negligee, with a V-neck right down to your navel.'"
The man did not understand: "But Rabbi, what does all this have to do with my problem with the IRS?"
"It doesn't matter what you wear," replied the Rabbi, "you're going to get screwed."
Ba dump bump!
Don't forget to pay your taxes by April 15. Think of it as your contribution to the "Michelle Obama 50th Birthday Party Bash" in January 2014. Yeah, bushmanbilly, I do wonder what that's going to cost? Jean

Got mine done and had to pay extra even though I had a lot extra withheld. Must have been the social security folks didn't hold out enough even at the maximum rate. Just curious, did you other folks notice if you paid more taxes ( got back less refund) this year?. Me, I'm just happy to have done my part to pay a tiny portion of King Obama's green fees or dog walking expenses *L* ...Mel

I ain't paying mine until the last minute. Until then the money I know I'm gonna owe the Obama slush fund can sit in my bank account and earn interest.

Yeah about 6 months ago a got friendly letter (ha ha) from the State of Arizona IRS. I got audited! Seems like I made an honest mistake on my form in 2008 I got back 300 dollar more on my refund than I should have So I have to pay back $340.00 Forty dollars interest! So in this letter were all these forms to fill out and sign Protest stuff… mostly So I wrote: “I find it the Height of Gall that the State would charge me 40 dollars interest ! Does the state ever pay me interest on all these these over payment I made throughout the years ? Sincerely, Mostly A month ago I get phone call. Its some lady from the IRS. I answered it which in itself is amazing. --Usually my ringer is off. So is my answering machine. No one I want to talk to Unless they got rock talk— Boy did this lady address me! Ripped me a new one!!! With facts and figures! On & on about how the State is fair and does pay interest on their mistakes. I half believed her. So any way I’m not sure what the conclusion is. I suppose, I won’t get back a State refund this year. And the poor remains at rock bottom mohs

As usual I'm paying my share to allow the welfare dolts on this forum to continue their mindless drone games. Ha ha
Actually I'm always happy to be able to pay...means I've had a good year and can contribute to those less fortunate than I am.

I was audited several years ago while living in North Dakota....It was a random audit too..I went to their office with my three years of tax papers. They told me before they even check out my papers, that they will find that I will owe them some money... I ended up paying them over $375.00 before I left the IRS building!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The bastards love playing drop the soap with US citizens!

Funny how everyone else that posted to this thread feels that like, most tax paying citizens, it's us against the IRS, while Rich and Charles have to make disparaging remarks about others. Tsk, tsk, tsk. Do you have so much disdain for others less fortunate than you? And how would you know, Chad, which of those "clowns" is paying less than 4%, and why would you care? Look at the big picture to see where your tax dollars are really going.
And "welfare dolts," Charles? Really? I seriously doubt that there are very many members of this forum that are on welfare. Or are you thinking like a Democrat, and counting "entitlements" (previously known as Social Security), going to people that have paid into that broken system for all their working lives? Lapidary is a costly hobby. While I'm not rich, my household certainly makes what they consider to be too much money to be on welfare.
Do you really think that putting a " ;D" or a "ha ha" after your snide comment makes it any more palatable? Quit trying to tear people down, huh?
Just my two cents worth...
Fossilman and bhiatt, that's great that you got your refunds so quick! It's good to know that government can get some things done in a timely manner.
Mel, didn't see much of a change for 2012, but boy, they are with holding a big chunk this year, up 48% on my paycheck.
And Ed, I feel your pain! Death and taxes, the only two certainties in life. Jean

Far as I’m concerned, anyone payin’ less than the typical sales tax in most places should STFU about the 47% cause they ain’t got enough skin in the game. ;D ;D
And around here, that’s usually the same bunch whining the loudest about taxes.

Whoo hoo! Already received my tax refunds! Taxes (both Fed and state) were e-filed on Mar 14. Direct-wired refunds arrived on 3/21 from the Feds, and on 3/22 from the state. Not bad! 'Course, both were just for trifling amounts. But still better than having to owe! Hope you all receive your refunds (if you're fortunate enough to have overpaid last year) quickly, while there's still some money left in the coffers. Feel sorry for those folks that used a certain large tax company, having to now wait six weeks because a requirement change, and they didn't know about it! Jean
