Unfortunately even here in BC, the good quality material is costly and hard to come by as outlined in the article, most of it goes to New Zealand and China or other jade loving country right from the mine, to be resold as their own. The nephrite from other areas of N.America, like CA. or OR. and WY. all have their unique signature and look but aren't as desirable in some markets because most are dark; lucky for us. Lloyd oops!! forgot to say that the picture is of a half kilo peice of tricolour burmese jade that was given to someone as a gift back in the fifties and I aquired at the local thrift store

A friend of mine collects in California. He recently sent me a chunk of botryoidal jade as a gift.

that botryoidal CA. jade, or from any local, is a real eye catcher and you probably were given a nice gift. I don't know how many times I've looked at that chunk of jadeite in the picture and said to myself "no-one will notice if I slice enough off for 3-4 rings" :<)) I've restrained myself till I get better at cabbing. I'll practice on the guatemalan till I decide what to do.

Even though written in 2006, it's interesting. Thanks for posting. Several male friends have found the CA jade in nearby Jade Cove, drilled a hole in it, polished it, then have hung it from a leather thong or such and now wear it has a pendant.

I here that it is a real experience diving for jade in the cove; I think one of the members here posted about it. A friend is coming up on the long weekend to do some digging and he was wanting some black jade and I happen to have some black guatemalan so I sliced a bit off at the local rock clubs shop and devided another peice of guat. jadeite so I could slice it at home.
