My son's shoveled snow for one of the older members of our rock club this winter and as an end of the season reward he gave me money to enter them in the Feather River world rock tumbling competition. I am going to keep this thread going throughout all the stages and will hopefully add pictures each week for those who would like to follow the process. This years rock for the competition is Tuledad Canyon Agate and looks like it will be in 60/90 for quite some time. Here's the rough we received on 3-28-2013. It was 3 lbs 2 ounces even. Thanks for looking, Chuck, Darren and Andrew

Very cool! I love this kind of thread. That material looks pretty darn hard. It should take a real good shine and I can't wait to see the results....Mel

This is exciting! It will make a good substitute for the Gold Rush season that is over. I just hope things go more smoothly on this reality show!

Here's the two week update. Only lost about 3-4 ounces of material this week. I am guessing you lose the most material the first week when its easier to break down the real rough edges. This material is very hard but we have 16 more weeks till they are due. thanks for keeping up Chuck

It must be just the pictures, but the color seems to be changing. The first pictures look mostly green, then after a week, they're more red/brown, and now they look green again.
I've noticed that the first week's tumble results in the biggest change too. When I check that first week, I think, "Wow, these are going to really be done quickly", then three months later, I'm still struggling to get little tiny imperfections out that never seem to go away.

The colors sure due change between the ones I took outside and the ones in the basement under fluorescent lighting. I'll try to take the rest under daylight from now on but here in Michigan we have not had much sunshine lately.

It's sunny here right now and really bright since it's reflecting off the #%$& snow we got after it had all melted. Oops, sorry, kind of got off on a tangent there.

Well I skipped posting a couple weeks due to lack of change in the rocks but we just finished week 5 in 60/90 and were finally able to pull our first 4 ounces of rocks out for the next stage. We need to send 8 ounces in to be judged. Oh, we started with 3 pounds and after week 5 we are now right at 2 lbs total weight. 1 lb 12 ounces in 60/90 and 4 ounces ready for 120. This stuff still needs to keep rolling in 60/90 And here are the 4 ounces we pulled out. maybe theres hope after all Thanks for following Chuck, Darren and Andrew

Those are starting to look really good. I thought they were shiny at first until I noticed that they were wet.

Well here is what they are looking like. I just ran them for a week in 120/220 in a rotary barrel because my loto was already busy. I will be starting them back in 120/220 in the loto today for another 2 days then they will move on. We are down to 1 lb 4 ounces to choose from and have to send in 1/2 pound of the best stuff. they are mostly dry in these photos but when wet its really not bad stuff at all. Chuck
