Well, I went to another estate sale recently. Despite having just done an inventory on what I already have in the way of rocks (about ten lifetime's worth), my addiction required me to procure MORE! The thing I like about estate sales is that you have access to rocks that are either extinct in the wild, or reside in areas that are either closed to collection, or you can't drive within ten miles of them. This person was an avid collector, I'm sure most of his material was from the southwest, but there are probably some exceptions. I will number the photos, making it easier for anyone to chime in with ID help. 1. The slabs were pretty well picked over, but at $1/lb, I did pick up a few. The guy was also into making spheres, preforms were also $1/lb. 2. Nice obsidian with silver swirls 3. Paid about $3.50 for this 4 1/2"preform Rough was 50 cents/lb 4. Actinolite The downside to buying from an estate, is most times there is no one you can ask questions of. I've been going through the Agate Index trying to match these up. Feel free to correct me... 5A. Rainbow Ridge? 5B. 5C. 5D. 6A. Dendritic Rainbow Ridge? 6B. 7. Moss Material, Cady Mtn south? 8A. Lattice Saganitic Agate 8B. 8C. . 8E. 8F. 8G. 9A. Unknown - coprolite? 9B. 9C. 9D. 10A. Stalactites/ Cave onyx from Kokoweef Caverns (was told the location). I understand you can't get this anymore. 10B. 10C. 11A. And saving the best for last - dino bone. Yes, 50 cents/lb. Sometimes, it's better to be lucky than good. 11B. 11C. 11D. 11E. If you haven't seen enough, I'll post more pics later. Thanks for looking. Jean

Great score! I'm with Donnie on the bone. That's a very wild looking hunk. Wonderful lattice sagenite too. I'd really l;ike the see #6 cut. It does have Rainbow Ridge colors but man, it kind of has a palm root pattern to it too....Mel

I don't think 9(s) is/are coprolite but I could be convinced otherwise. Whatever it is, I love it. I didn't see any Brenda jasper in there Nice haul!

Thanks, Donnie and Mel. So you both think that #9 is coprolite? I think so, too. Mel, I will cut #6 as soon as I get a chance to, and post more photos.
Denny, I am open to suggestions on #9, actually on all of them. Obviously, I don't know what it is or where it came from. But if it was self collected, and the dino bone was self collected, then it stands to reason that he would have been in an area with coprolites. Regardless of what it is, I think it looks pretty cool. I love the color combinations.
No Brenda jasper here, this is only a small part of what I just picked up at the estate sale, and I wouldn't have bought more of that there. Although, I did, for whatever reason, pick up more palm bog at the estate sale, although I already have plenty of it. I only picked up another half dozen pieces or so, guess I'm just a sucker for it! Nice finds, I love rock estate sales, especially if you can get there before BeefJello. :-)

Alright, Tim. Volume 2 coming up! Yeah, I'm glad Beef is over in AZ, and not here...
I just finished cutting #9 in half for Mel, and the coprolite for doubting Denny. Let me finish cleaning up, and if photobucket is cooperating, I'll get some pics up in a little bit! Jean

Jean, I think that the actinolite looks like none I have ever see. Crystals too fine and too long.
Looks more like that russian seraphinite to me.
I hope you bought all of the "rainbow ridge" stuff.

Thanks, darstcreek and Mike. Scott, I was wondering about the "actinlite" myself, and also thought of seraphinite. The reason I went with actinolite is that the vast majority of the estate sale rocks the person had self collected. This could have been collected way back, and you just don't see specimens like this anymore?? If you think you can make the show in Vista tomorrow, I'll bring it along to show you.
As for the rainbow ridge, I bought the only piece I saw, but there may have been more. I didn't know what it was until I started looking through the Agate Index. Jean
