Good to see you again, Stu.
Krystee: Those are really nice slabs. Where did you get the Firework Obsidian? Those are really neat pieces. Looking forward to seeing your cabs from those (I assume you're going to cab them).

Looking forward to seeing your cabs from those (I assume you're going to cab them). Paul The Fireworks came from a local rock sale I go to each year from a neighboring rock club president. I'm contemplating joining that club too because of the vast amount of field trips and all of the classes they offer, silver smithing in particular! My clubs much smaller but I have friends for life there. I went to this sale with fellow RTH'ers Juzwuz and Mattatya. We all met up and had a great time. It was one of those sales that you bring your own bucket, sort through the mountains of rock, pick out whatever you want, weigh it and pay a per pound price no matter what the material is. If you know your materials, you can score HUGE! Can't remember the prices but this year we were there on the first day so spent a little more. Somewhere between $1 and $2 per pound. 2 years ago I went at the tail end of the last day and bought bucket fulls at 35 cents a pound. I didn't want to miss out on the good stuff though this time, LOL

Those are all great slabs but I really want to see the cabs you make with that firecracker. Your obsidian cabs are always top notch.

Sweet stuff! If I may ask, how thick do you cut your Rainbow slabs?

Dave, on the rainbow or solid sheens I cut it at 1/4" or just slightly thicker so that I can do a cat's eye cut when cabbing.
Scott, the Fireworks is hit and miss. I've worked some where the starbursts are a little crumbly and others where they are totally solid. It is exactly like snowflake and most of the time polishes beautifully. I'm taking one of the slabs and face polishing it instead of cabbing it. I'll see how it works up and post the result here over the weekend!
