I stopped in today at a store that sells alot of used lapidary equipment and rocks and such. They had several saws I was debating getting but decided to think about it and see what everyone on here thought first.. One of the saws was a 10" slab saw with vice assembly and all goodies for 225. Seems like a decent price and the guy did say if i buy it from them and i have problems within the first couple weeks with it i could bring it back with receipt for full refund! They did have alot of other stuff like a 12" auto feed for like 440 or something? Seem legit?

Depends on the make and age of the saw, and if the motor is included. Some were cheaply built, and $225 would be a bit high. Let us know the make and we can better advise you.

Depends on the saw and condition. Price would be a steal for an old Highland Park, Crown, Star Diamond, Raytech, Rock's. Lortone also makes a 10" box saw and that would be a good price for it. Can you post pics?

I paid $275 for an old Beacon Star with powerfeed and motor and it lasted like 20 years. Best saw I ever had. Like the folks said, depends on brand and whether or not you want one with a power feed or not....Mel

Drive out to the East Valley and I will sell you a 10" Star Diamond saw with power feed and motor, a lortone tumbler of your choice 6# or 12# and a bucket or two of rocks for $200.

Yes, I am meeting up with Tim tomorrow morning to look thru his stuff and I will be taking home that saw and probably a lot more from what he says!!!! I am extremely excited at the moment to get started cutting some rock and making some jewelry! I just got my 5lb of rough today in the mail so that makes me more anxious....lol I will post pictures of my rough later.

I'm pretty sure you've stumbled into the deal of a lifetime! Don't forget to post pics of your new saw, rough and everything. We love us some pictures around here! Be warned.. it's a slippery slope from here on out, and there's no looking back

Congratulations. Comeraderie is what this forum is all about, and if the deal results in a firm establishment of another participant, then it has been a success. Often it is a bargain that gets us started, and yes down the slippery slope to a fruitful and fulfilling hobby that benefits many around us. Enjoy. Tom

Well... Today was a great!! I picked up the saw and set it all up in my backyard for the moment. Was cutting rock for 5 hours after it was all setup.. Tim gave me some great rocks and I started by cutting some beautiful rose quartz and some of my banded amethyst and amethyst that was ordered off ebay. I am on my way I also picked up a cab machine from him as well I am going to set that up in the next couple of days.
