Just had an interesting special senate election to fill the vacancy created when John Kerry joined the Cabinet.
Scott Brown, who won the last special election when Teddy Kennedy passed decided not to run. He was the favorite to win against anyone the Dems could put up.
In the end it was Ed Markey for the Dems and Gabriel Gomez for the Reps. Markey has been in the house forever, is quite Liberal, and frankly, was not that strong a candidate.
Gomez is a former Navy Seal, from a family of immigrants ( I suspect from Cuba ) who couldn't even speak English when he started school. He was a strong opponent but Markey ran ads of Gomez talking about raising the retirement age to save SS, ending Rowe vs Wade, and defending assault weapons.
Gomez ran his race attacking DC Gridlock and politics as usual by Markey and promised to be a different kind of Republican. Unfortunately he never said what he would do or what positions he stood for, allowing Markeys ads to define his positions. He still lost by less than 10 per cent in a race he should have won

Interesting. Don't Dems outnumber Repubs by like three to one in that state and the Repub lost by 10%? Pretty cool I think and it shows a huge swing by independents to the Republican side of the scale. Looking good to me in the midterms *L*. Maybe we we will get rid of gridlock by swinging the senate to the Republicans....Mel

That would still be gridlock Mel.
But you didn't read where Charlie said he was ultra liberal and a lousy candidate.
