poacher.............. Just determined. I spend a lot of time doing my research first and a lot of very long days hiking and digging. But only on public land and abandoned claims.

Don't mind Scott, he'd poach if he found good rocks in parks and private lands too I'm sure:). I can't believe there was chrysocolla near Vegas and I missed it:(....

Wow...what a haul!!! Look forward to your pix of the insides:). I might do a piece or two but that is it. I am actually not that much in to turquoise or chrysocolla. When I found this I was actually in the area looking for other stones. But I decided to check out the mine while I was in the area, which had been pretty much picked clean except the one pocket I found. Funny thing is that my friend and I went to a pay to dig site a week earlier. I told him about the abandoned mines in California where people were finding turquoise in the tailings but he wanted to go to that mine. So we went and had OK luck. I managed to find enough turquoise that he bought it from me for the $100 I paid to dig it so I broke even. So the following week I decided to head down to Afton Canyon and spent much of the day there. On the way back I wanted to check out several other areas for other things. But while in the area I decided to check out the mine and managed to find this nice pocket of what was left behind. So it made the trip worthwhile, but still I do not make jewelry and don't care much for turquoise or chrysocolla so I may polish a few for the heck of it, but not sure what I am doing with the rest yet.

One lady in the club has some claims somewhere close to Vegas. I have several pieces she gave me and it is pretty nice stuff. I know there are also some large deposits in the Virgin Mountains about 80 miles North of here still in Nevada and close by in Arizona. Actually, I spend most of my time normally searching the deserts for meteorites, which is how I have found a lot of the deposits of other things that many people around here don't know about.

Well, if you are interested in trading for some of that, pm me, and let me know what you'd to trade for:). I have a LOT of different kinds of rocks now, and of course I can always trade glass:).

I'm always up for trades. I used to try to get people to trade raw material for finished cabs since I did not cab. Not sure what you mean by glass, but sounds very interesting. I love wood and glass. My bother use to bee a glass blower making incredible glass sculptures until he got burned out. And my girlfriend is an artist specializing in glass carving and air erasing glass. I can send you some of the coral pink jasper as well if you are making jewelry. The color goes great with the turquoise and chrysocolla. Anyway, I will send you a message here shortly.

Duh, should have looked at your icon. I see what you mean by glass.
Hopefully you have ocean creatures, which I really love. sharks, rays, jellyfish, etc.

I was teasing you because you came to our state and poached our rocks. I have no right to claim them as mine, but hell, why not?!?!?
You certainly did your research well. That is a nice haul!

I look at it as I was coming to rescue the rocks before California falls off in to the ocean and they get lost forever.

Tommy, the San Andreas runs right into San Francisco bay. Are you east or west of the airport? BTW, I am west of San Andreas. That makes my sandy soiled yard bay front property! Imagine the waterfowl hunting then.....
