In this thread y'all have me believing that this is Tiffany Stone but my brother who has been doing this a lot longer than I have is convinced it's Burro Creek - and he showed slabs of it to the president of his club who is a god-like figure in the hobby and he said no question it's Burro Creek. My argument for hanging on to the Tiffany Stone identification is that it is VERY soft but yet is solid and stable and takes wonderful shine. It is so soft that I was able to go straight from beveling it on the rough grinder to 600 grit for shaping...and was still removing material at 3000 grit. There is no chance that it is agate and I would question even jasper. Anyway, whatever it is, it's beautiful and was easily the nicest and most forgiving material I've met yet.

That looks like Tiffany stone to me. Besides, Burro Creek is very hard. Nice cabs!

No matter what it is, it is beautiful! You got an excellent shine on it for being soft. Jean

Thanks guys, if it is ore of beryllium do we know where the highest concentration of beryllium lies? <cough> This person on Ebay says " The bertrandite is disseminated and is found on the outer portion of the nodule." My chest hurts just thinking that I made these cabs last night without a respirator LOL

My chest hurts just thinking that I made these cabs last night without a respirator LOL From I have read in my past research bertrandite is one of 16 mineral that may be present in Tiffany stone. So it is not found in all Tiffany stone. I would also like to clarify that Tiffany stone is often called bertrandite even though they are not the same thing. Again, bertrandite, which is found in localities all over the world, is only one of 16 minerals that may or may not be present in Tiffany stone.
