I am thinking about getting another barrel for my QT-66. Right now I only have one barrel running because I want to use the other for polishing only and I haven't gotten that far yet. If I get another barrel, what would make the most sense for its use? Having 2 barrels running both Steps 1 and 2? Should I have a separate one for pre-polish? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Generally, you should have a separate barrel for the polish stage. This is to ensure that no residual grit from previous stages will ruin the shine on your batch. No matter how hard you clean your barrels, it is virtually impossible to get every last bit of grit. A separate polish barrel will reduce the potential for cross contamination of grit.
Also, be sure to "burnish" your batch before you polish. Use water and borax for 24 hours to remove all grit from the batch before the final polish.
Good luck. Darryl.

Thanks. So if I got a third barrel I could alternate two barrels for steps 1,2 and pre-polish as I need them? I really would like to get more going in step one because at the rate I am going its going to take forever to get enough to fill a barrel for step two and beyond.

That's how many of us end up with multiple tumblers... The coarse grind takes so long and takes so much patience.
