Hi all. I know, I never post cabs, I just sigh over everybody else's. These aren't sighing material, but I thought I better start posting. Life has gotten in the way for awhile now, but I'm back with a few cabs I finished this weekend. First up is a little red (heated) tigereye cab. I like how flashy it is. Here's a video of the flashy flashy: Next is a little blue tigereye cab, a little more subdued: Next is Idontknowite from Idontknowwhere. Next is a souvenir. This is from the first agate I ever found, if you remember my trip report a year ago to Utah to the dinausaur np area. Crappy pic, the cab's not that much prettier, but it has memories. Next is a piece of Chinese turquoise from the greatrough.com folks. I got a little batch from them, and was generally quite pleased with the quality/price ratio. Last are the first graduating class from my trip to the Royston Turquoise Mine (pay dig) site last April. It was really fun, I should write a trip report. I got LOTS of pieces about like this. That's all. Thanks for looking, I hope to be more back in touch now! Susan

I'm always amazed at what a good cutter can do with common stones, orienting them in different ways. That tigers eye is lovely!
You have a turquoise mine in your neighborhood!!!? LUCKY!!!!

Thanks all. The turquoise mine is about 2 hours north of Bishop, CA (which is about 5 hours north of LA). So it's within range for a 3 day weekend if you like to drive.

Oh, I didn't treat it, bought it that way. ;-) Wish I could do that though! I'll leave that to James for now.

Thanks! The black and white stuff looks kind of like a lace agate, but it's not very hard (my favorite kind of rock - soft). Not suuuuper soft, but like a 5 or something, maybe 6. It's definitely not an agate -- I hardly swore at all while working this one, and agates always make me curse! ;-) I could have sworn I got it at the Searchers show, but I don't have a pic of the slab, and I photoed all my treasures from the show. I have another little preform of it but smaller.
Magnesite, maybe? I'm trying to think of any other clues. It doesn't turn the water any color, it doesn't smell like oil (one I'm working now smells like Odessa Texas!), seems a tad chippy. There are little agate-y areas, but mostly it's softer than that. I know, big help, right?

Nice cabs! I like the blue tiger eye, and wow, the Royston Turquoise is nice. I think making a trip out there is on my 'to do' list now! Thanks for sharing Blue, and I expect to see more of your posts here now! lol
