I've had some other material from Stone Canyon - and my local rock shop has a lot of it for sale - so I'm somewhat familiar with it. This resembles it but seems too tightly compacted and more pink than the reds that I might expect. Any ideas? Thanks for looking.

Yeah, it's either Stone Canyon or one of the related brecciated jaspers like San Simeon, Creston or Big Sandy. There are some colorful types from Stoney creek in northern California too. They all come from the same formation but the fancier color mixes seem to come from Stone Canyon or Big Sandy which is just over the hill to the west. Both show quite a bit of red and occasional pinks. That one you have is really a beauty....Mel
