So y'all remember that thread about a year ago in the buy-sell section about that dude who was selling 20lb lots of dryhead agate rough on ebay? I think it was $50 a lot, or something. Anyhow, I felt like a chump for awhile since I bought one, and kept cutting and cutting and was getting skunked. Just lots of purple clay. Anyway, I'm still cutting on those damn things, have gotten a fair number of nice little slabettes but nothing big. Finally last weekend I got a pretty decent one. It's not like the best dryhead ever, but it's pretty nice! It has a fracture through it though. I can't tell how far it goes. I'm trying to decide what to do with it. I have one slab off it and left the rest of the nodule. Back of nodule: (There's no color on the sides or ends).

very nice.... you could try some thinner slabs from it and nce you clear the fracture, polish it fordisplay or make some nicer slabs to work with/display then too!! either way you have a nice one there !!!

That's a pretty nice one all right!. The perfect ones are too nice to slab up for cabbing but the ones with fractures are really good for that use. A nice thing about Dryheads is the matrix is usually really full of silica and takes a nice polish too. This gives one more flexibility when choosing a design to cab.....Mel

Cool, thanks for the info Mel. So I could frame a cab on the left end, for example.

Hm, maybe half and half. I could take a couple thinnish slabs, and if the fracture ends, polish the face. Thanks for the ideas!
(Krystee, the face is about 3.5" long, tip to tip.)

Specimen's are made to be cut! I bought one of those parcels too, it was okay, nothing like what you have here.

I have one like that only a little lager but someone slabed an end off it so it would sit flat I guess, so I am going to make as large a cab as I can around 3 inches by 2.5 or so and wrap it like a picture fram and put on an easel for a specimen, I can get at least 2 quarter inch cabs and a couple smaller. Just a thought.
