My project is actually a preform for a future carving, but I thought lets give you a tease and polish it all the way, before carving starts. Its a Montana heel and for now at 6cm a bit over two inches its huge for me. I had nothing really to do with the shape, as the shape was basically a given from the start. Here is the only picture I took as I decided that I would want to carve something with it. But alas, the "cab" as such, is on the other side. I skinned the stone until I got to the fracture free areas. Shape is not perfect, but looks good for my project that I got on mind. Still left some pits in the surface because removing them now, might have repercussions on the eventual design. In any case, here are the best pictures from this morning: Best regards, Kurt

That's cool with all those swirls in it! This is definitely a teaser! I am curious to see what you are going to do with it. The first picture is also interesting because of the pattern on the edges.

Kurt Do you ever carve anything that has an opaque background? Probably too dark. The heels i cut off coral can have scenery in them. May not be your forte. Hope all is well. This heel is about as good as it gets.

Good luck on the carving, that would make a super pendant too:)

Donnie: That"s part of the idea. I want to keep the outer shell containing all that mess and the do something else using the pure inner color to contrast. All in all there should be 3 subjects in the final design. Two of which involve my fears in carving (One of which I never tried before because of the inherited fear tackling the design). Plus one subject that is very easy to create, but could break (without it in place, the overall theme, while still working, would not be really complete).
Tom: All that I do are intended as pendants. If everything goes according to plan, this will be a two-sided one. Eventually it might come in at just under two inches if the still existing fracture behaves as I think it will. If not, and I get lucky, it will remain above two inches, but will loose about half of its weight.
James: Its something that I will have to eventually tackle and it has been on my mind often these past few months looking enviously at some rather amazingly fantastic cameos.

Fantastic Montana, looks like sea "weed" frozen in ice.

Are "heels" end cuts? Some of my nicer cabs seem to have come from the ends..
Your Montana is great! The first photo certainly doesn't hint at the opposite side. Sneaky agate!

Thank you guys.
Yes it does look great when there is light coming from the back. But..... when there is not; its just a brown mass, not attractive at all.
Will thin out the inner wall, so the inclusions can be seen from the front.
Montana is always good for the rind, but needs to be smaller/thinner for use as an effective cab.
Will be a while, before I'm going to do this one, need to get started on two other projects, that have been promised previously.
