This is a thin slice that has been backed with basinite, all the black was a fairly transparent turtleback agate. Ideas? Lee

With those pastel colors and the crystal center, I'd guess Moctazuma. That particular Mexican nodule seems to run to a lot of centers that are either hollow or megaquartz filled and those pastel pinks, yellows, oranges etc seem to be the common colors ..Mel

Thanks, Mel. Looked it up and sure enough that's the one. The collection the thin slab came in has some cut and uncut nodules that may also be the same stuff.

Lee: Moctazumas are usually fairly rounded or ovals, often with a light colored exterior that ranges from kind of dimply to smooth with tiny pits and they only rarely reach sizes over an inch or two. Those floating centers surrounded by clear agate are fairly common when you cut them too I really like them as they are kind of perfect for one cab wonders or for tumbling slabettes...Mel
