Here we have the COLDEST October 1st ever recorded so far. Weather like blizzard, only it's cold rain. 6 degrees Celsius but feels like -2 because of strong wind. In some colder areas it even snowed - with layer of snow on roads and traffic problems. Part of the global warming thing, I guess. Adrian

Sorry to hear that Adrian! It's 78 degrees F (~26 degrees C) here today. Supposed to cool off to 40 F (4 C) by Saturday. Quite a temperature drop. Hope your new house is keeping you warm.

Hard to say if one event is part of overall climate change and extreme weather events. What is the record cold temp for Oct 1st?
I like Kansas because it has much less snow than Pennsylvania - but I wish I still lived in Oregon. You can avoid snow by staying close to I-5, and then there are the rocks.

Nice point about Oregon. RE: hard to tell... I'll politely disagree with this point. The climate changes. It does so on many cycles. The most obvious is the daily cycle. Now that I have that in your mind, remember there have been ice ages on their own cycles? Well, climate has other cycles too. Climate changes. Period. Has been since the origin of the planet and will continue until the sun swells and swallows the earth. Therefore all climate change is normal. To predict it will change is well, no fete. Climate changes. Nuf said.

Don't forget, 2013 marked the first year of an ice free pole.

It's that time of the year again...I am not looking forward to the cold weather that I know is coming either, especially because the snow covers up all the rocks and arrowheads and makes them harder to find!! I am trying to hold out wearing my shorts and sandels as long as I can - wish it would stay summer all the time!!

Will wear shorts, tank top and flip flops as long as possible. At least when winter hits here (SoCal), there's no snow. When it gets below 60 degrees, the natives start complaining about how cold it is, LOL! No hurricanes/tropical storms or depressions here, no blizzards. Looks like some of you may be in for it soon.

Here in Monterey, 60 degrees is the average all year! We got a couple days over 80 this yr and people were complaining about the heat wave, LOL! I won't blind anyone with the neon legs but flip-flops & tanks are the norm for me all yr round. Been here for 18 yrs and I still miss the seasons!

Ah come on Al Gore. How much more of this GLOBAL WARMING can we take ?? 49" of snow in Lead, S.D. in the last 24 hours, and still coming down. New record snowfall records set in western South Dakota. I hate to think what our friends in Montana and Wyoming are getting. Way too early in the season for all this GLOBAL WARMING.

Here in north central Wyoming we did not get one flake. It went around us on both sides. Got down to 24 degrees though but we still have herds of flies. Hate them buggers. Jim

We had 3 inches of wet snow here in the valley in SW MT., It snowed a foot in the nearby mountains. It melted within a day and we are back to nice fall weather, high 60's today. Time to go chase Brown trout, they should be starting to run.

I heard that Powell, about 30 miles north of here, got about a foot. I don't know where it started south of here but lower Wyoming was in the news and we are almost never in the news or on the weather channel. Jim
