Day two: I woke up this morning to find out the government is still in shutdown mode. My food supplies are sufficient enough to sustain me for a long time. And I have plenty of ammo to fend off the zombies when they arrive. If there are any other survivors, you're not alone. Their seems to be a small group right here in my town who have managed to keep conducting business. For who and what, I don't know. But they still seem to be productive as if a government weren't an issue in their daily lives.......oh the poor fools. Don't they know that they need government to function?...... I'll post more as life goes on

The sky is falling for some like my neighbors who both work at the fort. She is sitting at home and they are making him go to work, do his normal job and NOT get paid. He has his older brother living with them and they were going to have to lean on him but he got laid off 2 days ago. Told them I could offer 1 20hr week job at $10hr but that's all I could do money wise. Think any of the following crap is true or just some jerk trying to flip everyone out: www.freedomsphoenix.com/News/142729-2013-10-02-obamacare-fines-to-be-seized-from-bank-accounts.htm?From=News

Quote from Robs link. If the U.S. government were a hospital patient, you’d pull the plug out of sheer mercyThe only real question is how long it will take for the People to finally lose sufficient faith in this failed government to actually pull the plug and shut it down permanently. If you think of the U.S. government as a hospital patient, it’s being kept alive with an artificial lung, an IV feeding tube, a cocktail of toxic blood thinners and a bedside defibrillator. The crash cart is on standby and the heart monitor is showing a failing pulse headed towards flatline. The Fed stands ready with a syringe full of adrenaline (labeled “Quantitative Easing”), but the patient has already been injected fifty-seven times, and no one knows how much more the patient’s heart can handle before exploding.

I am hoping for a VERY LONG STANDOFF. Then the majority of USA citizens will get to see, first hand, just how unimportant the federal government is.
In my experience, except for one instance, for my recent adult life the feds have stepped in the path of my prosperity at every opportunity. Save that one instance (getting my FFL) they have never once been anything but an adversary to me. And even after getting my FFL the ATF and I were on adversarial grounds, them ready to pounce on me at my first mistake.
I am hoping for a VERY LONG GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN.

Heard from a friend out on Cally that there is quite bit of trickle down impact around the bases because folks aren't buying lunches and such at areas around the bases Unaffected around here. Don't notice a thing. Heard on the news that congress is traumatized as they no longer have their elevator button pusher and sometimes answer their own phones now. Doubt the Prez is doing without his chefs and servants, golf caddy etc. Since he doesn't seem to be doing anything regarding negotiations, I'd say his job is non essential.
I find it very cynical that the government, when faced with shutdown, makes the best attempt possible to choose to shut down those high profile things that will annoy the public the most and then uses them for a PR campaign. Think the American public is smart enough now to figure out what is going on since the scumbags did the same thing during the sequester. I'm with Scott, since these folks are non essential, may the shutdown be a long'un....Mel

I called my daughter to see how it was affecting them.Their family lives on an Air Force base in North Carolina. The store on base was selling meat half price before the shutdown,to try and get it out before the doors shut. The base exchange is closed, she went to the library ,it was closed. If you need an ID made,no luck. They are supposed to move in the next couple weeks, but aren't processing anyone.Just came back from there for a 10 day visit, right before it happened.

In reality i'd just assume get it over with while im young enough to maybe able to survive some crazy ass scenario problem would be everyone would go nuts. It wouldn't just be your skill i'd put that at 20% and the other 80% would be pure luck, not being at the wrong place at the wrong time etc. And now that i've made that crazy comment my first response to your opinion is "OH HELL NO!!!" because it's only the wife and I here in this larger older house and then dad lives by himself in a doublewide on my property. I fully expect to be 'occupied' before this over in fact I have so many friends now getting screwed and possibly losing homes it's not funny of course most of my friends were construction workers. Truthfully i'm surprised someone else isn't living here already! It's came close a couple times. Can't really say no to really close friends that would have nowhere to go but the streets. Like my neighbors who are also best friends they are so far in debt it's not funny and can't even hardly get by when working and now they are both on shutdown? If I end up getting stuck with another vehicle I don't need making a payment on it and another new 4 wheeler and making a payment on that and end up having to actually spend more time working in the shop than drinking beer to make ends meet I am going to be SEVERELY PISSED. So.....that's my first greedy opinion about it all. Of course foreclosure takes forever these days so who the hell knows. I'll be surprised if we make it to the default, oops technical default, date but you never know I think things are far worse than the lead everyone to believe as in the massive economic recovery we are currently in.

Day 3: Tried to make it to work this morning, drove slowly to avoid hitting the dead and dying in the streets. Didn't see any bodies, obviously someone is dragging them away and hiding them. Republican extremists? As I reached the interstate highway I drive to get to work there were no barricades set up. It was at this point I realised I have to cross a bridge to get to work, and there are no federal workers to ensure it doesn't suddenly collapse. Went home and called in to work. Amazingly the phones still work, but for how long???

haha!
Day three for me.
OOpsie! I forgot the government was shut down. I did notice traffic was light driving to LA today. No zombie gov't employees clogging up the lanes. Got back to the office, people are still spending money. I sold a kitchen renovation. Two sales people from tile suppliers came by with samples. The mfg's are looking forward to introducing new products. Closed government seems to indicate good prognosis for business.

Maybe they'll shut down the border patrol. That's what Obama and Reno want anyway. Open season !!!

Maybe they'll shut down the border patrol. That's what Obama and Reno want anyway. Open season !!! You know I had a house in Eloy, AZ around 15 years ago. Inherited it from grandmother, parents didn't want it gave it to me ended up selling it cause couldn't talk wife into moving from Kansas(ugh), at any rate a bp agent lived across the street and even at that time that guy literally told me he knew where they were coming across but he had strict orders to stay away from that area. True story. And now i'm glad I did sell the house because no more than a year or so ago the Casa Grande police made the announcement that they had lost complete control over the area and not to go outside at night time. What a shame it was an awesome place. Maybe that was an over reaction I don't know I haven't been there since. I will say I would probably not do the rockhounding trips by Nogales and Duqesne if I were there. Ran into rather odd scenery out in the middle of nowhere by Duqesne.........there was actually grass pasture, trees and cows. Had it not been for the mountains and lenticular clouds I would had thought I was back in KS.
