After reading numerious threads I have come to the conclusion that the UV10 will be to big for my needs. I'm going to try and find a good used Lot-O and give it a try. I only do about 4 to 5 pounds of rock at a time. My question to the membership do you think I'm on the right track going with the Lot-O. TIA

Other option might be a UV3...

I have a Lot-O and I love it. I've heard good things about the UV's though.

I have the uv10 and it is great. I keep it pretty full of ceramic media so I can do as little or as much as I want at a time.
Either are great, lots of folks swear by either.

Probably can't go too far wrong with either choice. I have the UV 10 with an additional 3 lb. bowl. This allows me to do small or large batches, I suspect that one can polish bigger rocks in the UV 10, but I see some beautiful smaller slabs done by members here in the Lot-O.

Thanks for all the help guy's I really appreciate it. 2 key factors did surface when reading the reply's. First was when John mentioned ceramic media. For me running 50/50 would work out perfect. Second, When grayfingers mentioned polishing bigger rocks. A lot of stone that I work with will run up to 6oz pieces. It looks like I might need the UV10 after all. I should mention that I do have a Lortone QT66 for running the first 2 stages of abrasive grits through. Once again thanks!!!

Greetings [geodehunter] firstly may i welcome you to RTH from the other side of the pond! Another consideration is how much noise they make, clearly the UV10 makes almost twice the racket of the Lot-O, if you do choose the UV make sure it's the UV Industrial with a blue stripe, otherwise it will wear-out pretty fast as they are made with inferior parts for polishing brass. I have a raytech and hate it. I don't use it, I do everything rotary, so my comment is more general. It sounds like the UV10 would ultimately give more options on quantity & size with the use of additional media. More options is usually better in this hobby. Also, there is a tendency to go bigger & bigger as time goes on. So, if the cost is close, I would go with the option that was most versitile.

One pain point about the uv10 is that you have to thread off the top wing nut to look at the progress where I see on the Lot-O you can just pop the lid.
Not a big deal but something to think about.

You could run the UV without the lid or use a shower cap on it.
I have a UV18, which takes a lot of rock to keep fed.
