There's a bunch of epidosite in Colorado, this is a nice fist sized specimen I found last weekend. It's nice but I think I'm going to slab it and see what it looks like on the inside, those red bits are cool.

That's a nice looking rock. I'm not sure what the difference is between epidote and epidosite is, but I'm assuming epidote is the mineral and epidosite is the rock made out of that mineral. I pick up a lot of unakite in Lake Superior. It is epidote and red or orange feldspar. How much red does it need to be called unakite?

I don't know how much red it needs to be unakite, all the stuff I've seen labeled that has more red than green. The more quartz the better it seems to take a shine, the epidote itself is kinda soft it seems

From what I understand, epidote is the mineral and epidosite is a rock made up of epidote and quartz. I guess it is similar to unakite being a rock made up of epidote and feldspar.

So much to learn, and so few lives to learn it in!

Good discussion ... I had to go look it up.
Epidosite is a rock, similar to unakite except it doesn't have the feldspar component of the recipe. Epidosite is a combination of epidote and quartz. The higher the quartz content, the more likely you will get a good shine.

That's a nice color, are you going to slab & cab or keep it as a specimen?
