Spent the morning with the saw today. Slabbed up the rocks from my mom and my trip out to Afton Canyon and the Green Whateveritscalled Mine, and some other rocks, mostly ones I got at Jodi Boyd's annual garage sale. First, some Tahoma Agates bits sliced through the "cream": Mookaite (see the tornado?) Sodalite: Bryozoan from Jodi's roommate Sue (Rockhound Dog): This stuff didn't seem very agatized/contrasty. I've never cut it before. I think I would buy it already slabbed in the future -- this is the best piece of the pound or so I got. Amazonite: A very nice little Burro Creek (looking forward to cabbing this one): Mahogony Obsidian from I don't remember where: A little quartz (?) druzy plate I found out at Lavic that I'm going to clean up and drill for a pendant An odd crazy lace piece: Rocks from the Afton Canyon Trip: Orbicular Rhyolite: Moss: Brekker was nicer than I expected inside: The one from the fence post: And the Green Whatever Mine rocks -- I need to do better with selection, obviously. These don't look real good, not sure they'll polish. But they stayed behaved well in the saw, so who knows? They're happy rocks evidently. Not very solid: Coarse grained: Plain, but nice color and looks like the best potential of the ones I cut today. I have more rocks to cut later, hopefully I did better with the other half! Thanks for looking!

That Rhyolite is spectacular but the Burro Creek wins it for me...John

Nice! If had to pick a favorite, it'd be the Burro Creek. That's a beauty! Your fencepost piece is almost an Afton Canyon type specimen. Used to be big vein sections of that jasper agate all over the place in the gravels off Basin Road. Must be a big exposure of it somewhere up those canyons. Some of it even has orbs like ocean jasper and a top coating of botryoidal chalcedony. Pretty stuff that takes a heck of a polish. I think I still have a couple of big pieces out on my rock piles....Mel

All slabs look interesting. Can't wait to see the cabs. And maybe I'll swing on by and pick up some of that green mystery mine stuff and try it out.

That's a great selection of slabs and all are going to make nice cabs. That burro creek has great color and would be my favorite of the group.

Yes, love all the afton canyon stuff. Specially the "evil-eyes" rhyolite lol
Please post pics of the andesite - fail or success it's worth showing.
Yes, the burro creek is dreamy.

Hi Susan,
I have got a slab a few years ago with the lable " Cooper-bearing slab Hougton Co., Michigan". The green parts are very similar to yours.
