So I have some 4 inch pipe, a endcap on it and a sawed off coupler on the other end to make both ends same size and a test cap compression fitting to close it off. I cut it to fit a double barrel Lortone tumbler. My question is how much to fill it up with tumbles? With my 3# Lortone I fill it 3/4 and use 3 tablespoons of 60/90 with wster up to the bottom of the stones. How much water, grit, and stones should I put in it?

I would still fill it 3/4 of the way with rocks and water and 4 or 5 tablespoons grit. let it roll!

Gmornin Mark! You froze anything off..... err up in Pisgh yet??? LOL If this works I am gonna try a 12# pvc barrel for my new Lortone. Wonder if I need something glued to the inside of the barrel to trip the stones and make them tumble?

My 6 and 8 inch barrels do fine w/out kickers orrum. If you fill them 3/4 full they should roll well. If you fill it less the rocks are more likely to slip. The bigger barrel will slip more because of the gentler slope. I like 6 inch barrels most. 20 inch long holds 16 pounds easy. So 14 inch should do 12 pounds. Here is some 6 inch PVC tumbler barrels www.flickr.com/photos/67205364@N06/sets/72157632010477939

Was looking at what appeared to be breakouts in the barrels in the bottom photos. How fast does that happen with PVC? After I get a few other projects done I am considering starting a larger tumbler.

Hey Jamesp thanks for the pics! I got my 12# barrel made just like yours but sborter to fit the 12# Lortone frame. I used sewer pipe, its thinner and fits. The schedule 40 with a cap etc was too thick. Also got one 6# double Lortone rolling but having problems getting the second one to act right.
